Mouse Button Test

Click each button in the test area; the panel shows per-button counts and the last interval, with sub-80ms chatter flagged in red.

Click left / right / middle here, and scroll the wheel.

A single physical press registering two clicks under 80ms apart flags as suspected chatter.

How to read it

  • Each row shows clicks, the last interval and the smallest interval seen — red means a sub-80ms pair on one physical press.
  • Test the suspect button ten times slowly; repeated red flags across slow single presses point to switch wear, not your rhythm.
  • Wheel counts and direction catch encoder faults — jumps or reverse ticks without scrolling mean trouble.

Frequently asked questions

Why is under 80ms flagged as suspected chatter?

Deliberate human clicks rarely come under 80ms apart. Faulty micro switches bounce at typically under 50ms, so sub-80ms events deserve suspicion — weigh them against what you actually felt.

Is testing over Bluetooth accurate?

The tool measures the interval between click events as the browser receives them; Bluetooth latency applies equally to both events, so the gap — and the verdict — stays valid.

What does the wheel counter check?

It counts scroll ticks and direction. Counts rising without scrolling, or sudden direction flips mid-scroll, point to an aging wheel encoder — the cause of the classic 'scroll bounce' bug.

What if the switch really is bad?

Under warranty, use it. Out of warranty, the options are soldering a new micro switch or replacing the mouse. As a stopgap, some drivers and OS accessibility settings let you raise the double-click threshold.
