Microphone Test
Grant access and speak — the meter and waveform should move. Record 10 seconds to hear playback. All audio stays in your browser.
Audio never leaves your browser — nothing is uploaded, stored or sent anywhere.
- Click the lock/tune icon left of the address bar, set Microphone to Allow, then reload.
- macOS: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone — enable your browser. Windows: Settings → Privacy → Microphone.
- Still silent? Check the input device choice, physical mute key and OS input volume.
What to check
- Speak at normal volume: the meter and waveform should track your voice in real time — a flat line means no signal reached the browser.
- Record 10 seconds and play it back — playback confirms the full chain, not just the meter.
- Headset and Bluetooth mics work too — the test uses whatever the system default input is.
Frequently asked questions
The browser says permission denied — now what?
Click the lock/tune icon left of the address bar, set Microphone to Allow and reload. If it persists, check the OS layer: macOS → System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone; Windows → Settings → Privacy → Microphone — make sure the browser itself is allowed.
Is my recording uploaded or stored?
No. The clip lives only in this page's memory for local playback; closing or refreshing the tab erases it. Nothing reaches a server.
The level meter doesn't move at all — checklist?
Check the selected input device (built-in vs headset mic), any physical mute switch, and whether the OS input volume is at zero. Bluetooth headsets can also grab the channel in call mode.
Can I test a headset mic?
Yes — the tool uses whatever the system's default input is. Plug the headset in, set it as the input device in system settings, then run the test.
