Webcam Test

Press start and allow camera access — the picture should appear live; the panel shows the real resolution and frame rate, with device switching and a local snapshot to check quality.

Live picture · resolution readout · free · runs locally in your browser

Video never leaves your browser — nothing is uploaded, stored or sent anywhere.

What to check

  • The preview should be live and smooth; a frozen or black frame with a resolution readout means something else holds the device or a shutter is closed.
  • Compare the readout with the advertised spec — many systems default to 720p even on 1080p cameras.
  • Phones and laptops with several cameras can be switched in the device list to check each one.
  • Press Stop or close the page — the camera indicator light should turn off immediately.

Frequently asked questions

The browser says permission denied — now what?

Click the lock/tune icon left of the address bar, set Camera to Allow and reload. On macOS also check System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera for your browser; on Windows, Settings → Privacy → Camera for desktop app access.

The picture is black but a resolution shows up?

The camera is open — check for a physical shutter/privacy slider or an Fn camera key (common on laptops), and whether a video-call app is holding the device exclusively. Close that app and retry.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The stream only enters this page's memory and snapshots are generated locally; closing the page or pressing stop releases the camera immediately — the camera indicator light confirms it.

Why isn't the resolution the advertised 1080p?

Browsers take the system's default stream configuration, and many setups default to 720p. On multi-camera devices (phone front/back, external USB cams) switch through the device list to verify each one.
