How to read it

  • A pressed key lights up and stays marked; the counter tracks how many distinct keys you have covered.
  • A key that never lights up after several presses is dead — cross-check on another device before blaming the switch.
  • One press flashing twice counts as suspected chatter — an early sign of a worn switch.
  • While active, single keys are captured (F-keys included) but Ctrl/Cmd combos still reach the system, so the page never traps you.

Frequently asked questions

A key press doesn't light up — is the keyboard broken?

First make sure the test is active (click the test area). Still nothing: for wireless check battery and pairing; for wired try another port or device. A key that's dead everywhere is almost certainly a hardware fault.

How do I switch Mac / Windows layouts?

Use the layout toggle above the tester. Mac shows Control / Option / Command positions; Windows shows Ctrl / Win / Alt, covering full-size 104-key and 87-key zones.

Does the test swallow system shortcuts?

While active it suppresses single-key defaults (F-keys, scroll keys) so the page doesn't jump; combos with Ctrl/Command still pass through so you're never trapped. Esc exits the test.

Can it detect key chatter (double actuation)?

Yes. If one press fires two keydown events for the same key, it's counted as suspected chatter — a classic sign of a worn mechanical switch.
